That about sums it up!!!

So...whats a month really. I mean who really gives a big deal right. It's only 30 days or 4 weeks or 720 hours or...

Alright, so seriously, if we were to sit down together with a wonderful cup of something warm (whatever your fancy might be), I would only imagine the conversation to go something like this:

{friend} "So tell me, what's new with you?}
{me} "First off, it's not hard to look around and notice a lot of 'new' here. But probably the most important of all is that I (we) are back in our home!!!"

That about sums it up!!! Oh sure I could tell you how incredibly hard it was to trade our home where we were very comfortable, for a week long stay at a local hotel ~ close to dining and shopping!

Then I could tell you how totally, well umm, ahh... really words cannot describe... apartment living! Let's just say I am not interested in going back to that for sure!

And we should not forget the crud that got passed around like a winning football during a SuperBowl game! Let's just say that the gift of this delightfully unpleasant crud that my husband passed onto me is not the gift that I was hoping or even asking for for my birthday ~ diamonds, perfume, a really nice sweater are all better options in my mind!!! Nonetheless, last Friday I did receive one of the greatest "bday" gifts when the boys and I packed up the apartment and headed for home...for good. And then I received the sweetest gift when I followed Dalton to work for my "bday soy Chai" and saw one of my friends there having coffee with another gal. Upon hearing my poor sad story {of flooding, being sick, packing and moving alone... you get the picture}
She said to me, "Can you use an extra set of hands to help unpack? I was just going to go home and trim my Christmas tree but I can do that anytime." Now usually in this situation when asked if I need help my normal "martyr" response is, "Oh no, I've got it all handled", but lo and behold out of my mouth came, "you know, I could really use another set of hands - thank you!" It was like one of those out of body experiences where you see yourself talking but you don't have any control of what is going on. Let me say that I am so glad that my mouth spoke before my brain had a chance to stop it, cause what a blessing I received. She went into each bedroom and managed to move whatever needed to be moved to get to the beds to change the sheets/bedding on each and every bed so we at least had a place to sleep even if we did not have all the boxes unpacked. Isn't God's timing so perfect!!!

And do you ever have one of those days where it takes you allllllll day to do just one thing??? Today has been that day as I began this post about 9:00 this morning and here at 9:14pm this evening I am finally getting to finish what I started. So I guess after this long-winded post I owe some pictures. I tried to find pictures of the house before so I could do a comparitive, but no luck, so here goes:

Living room - almost put back together (I managed to keep the boxes out of the photo :-) Through the settlement we were able to upgrade our furniture to a new leather couch, chair and ottoman~ my dream for new furniture. Notice Little Missy is using her computer.

Yes, we even managed to get our Christmas tree up and decorated all in the weekend we moved back. Thanks to the boys, Abigail and hubby while I was unpacking other boxes :-)

Atlas, my new kitchen. We were able to put in solid oak floors with a medium brown swedish finish. Our kitchen cabinets are hickory wood (I love the inconsistencies in them with large dark natural 'eye' spots). We went with a 'Corian' like countertop (just the cheaper version right under it) in a cocoa brown which totally accents between the cabinets and floor. We also made the choice to upgrade to a new stainless steel stove and side-by-side refrigerator with the ice/water feature on the door, my favorite as the boys don't understand the difference between putting back the Brita empty or not! Now we don't have to worry about it, as they never have to open the door to get water/ice again :-)

Other side of the kitchen. We made the decision to eliminate the L-shape we had in the kitchen and straighten it out along the wall, opening up the kitchen a ton!!! We also switched the dishwasher to the right side as all of us, except Abigail are right handed. And we changed the lighting to can lights in the ceiling giving off so much more light than we ever had.

I tried to get a whole shot as best I could of the kitchen.

The new and improved hall bathroom. Looking at this photo our toilet used to be where the sink on the left was. We chose to swing the toilet along a different wall and re-plumb to add an additional sink considering having 3 teenage boys and a daughter, the whole double sink thing is a good choice.

In this picture, the tub/shower run along the left next to the toilet.

More pictures to follow as I haven't gotten around to taking them yet. Okay so the real truth of the matter is I haven't gotten around to cleaning/clearing the room so a decent picture can be taken. I'm just too tired from this crud, oh well, maybe later!

Just floating along

Okay, so I have been a little MIA these past days. To be perfectly honest, when things in life get crazy or hectic or stressful I tend to just unplug and run or rather in this case float (full pun intended) along!

The position of decision maker in this whole flood/remodel project landed on me by default. Not that hubby did not or even could not be a part of the decision, rather most of them needed to be done timely (some right away) and with holding down a full-time job that left me to do the running around looking at colors, styles, etc. As fun as choosing new items for the house are - the load gets really heavy sometimes. Not to mention then the come home to your house 'full' after you have been gone all day making vital decisions with a 2 year old who has not even thought about a wink of sleep and the first words you hear are, "what is for dinner?" Let's just say the way I must have looked at that moment...well...ugly should be enough said!

WATER...has become my life - what did I expect...after all I did name my son Noah right? Yes, but I did not expect to be surrounded by water.

Apartment living is just that, apartment living. I have to wear a wetsuit to do my kitchen dishes cause the kitchen faucet only has 'firehose' mode or off - no middle ground, thus when the water pours out at such great intensity it cannot help but soak you and everything you are wearing in the process. Oh yeah, did I also mention that the kitchen faucet has a leak - drip, drip, drip. My sink at my house used to have a leak (a nasty one too) that I have lived with for months now. AND (you thought I was done huh?) there is a constant puddle of water in the master bathroom on the floor next to the toilet. No matter how many times I wipe it dry...only to have to come back and find another one. Where the heck is this water coming from? BUT...the final straw was last evening as we were sitting enjoying Monday night TV, hubby and I notice a wet spot (yes you read correctly) on the ceiling just above the TV. Not just any ordinary wetspot, but a 'something is leaking above the sheetrock'. See for yourself.Thankfully, we moved the TV and placed a bucket under it as it is now dripping onto our carpet - drip, drip, drip, drip, drip, drip - I think you get the picture.

So... as my stress level tops the rpm's of stress I will gladly say, "Okay God...if you want us to build an ark WE will. No questions asked other than supply list and building specifications. WE already have a crew and we'll get busy...just say the word cause I am REALLY LISTENING now!!!"

A little preview

Okay, so here is a sneak preview of our kitchen/dining room floor. We were blessed to be able to receive solid oak 2 1/4 inch slat hardwood floor that we chose to stain a golden brown color to accent the kitchen cabinets. NOW, notice the wall before you that is a lovely shade of Tiffany sort of blue...it won't be for long. Keep reading.

It feels like Christmas came early as yesterday morning a jolly ole' fellow happily knocked on our door and said, "Delivery!" with a ho, ho, ho under his breath. Brian was sure to inform me that it was not a ho, ho, ho but rather a umph, ummm, uhhh as he carried in a heavy cabinet. A girls' gotta dream, you know!!! The wood is a beautiful hickory with knots riddled throughout all of the cabinets.

Our new kitchen/dining room colors. The 3 walls of the kitchen are a lovely shade of yellow-ish color. The actual name is called Chai Latte - fitting don't you think for a girl whose drink of choice is a Chai latte (with soy I might add). The cherry/red-ish sort of color is called Grenadine which is a cross between a cherry/raspberry color. It gives this room so much life - I love it! Now only to see the kitchen cabinets installed on Monday :-)

Always a fantastic way to end a post, but with the smiling faces of my beautiful children!

Color...don't get me started on color

Yellow Frost

Brown Clay...

These are just a few of the decisions we have had to make in the past few days. The list goes on and on and sometimes my brain hurts from too much input.

We are safely nestled into our temporary Apartment housing for the next few weeks. Pictures to follow.

First...the damage

(no particular order either.)Where my bathroom vanity used to be

This machine was the loudest machine ever. You could not talk in this room while it was running. It's purpose is to blow air between the hard wood and the sub floor to dry it out.

Was my living room - now a storage facility - and not a very organized one at that!

My kitchen...all hooked up
Where my kitchen sink used to be.

Noah's floor or rather where it used to be.

Part of my hallway that used to have this non-descript beige carpet.

Where my sink/kitchen cabinets used to be

A brief intermission of CUTENESS!!!

Future Wrestler??? Dalton was having fun with Abigail the other day and dressed her up in his Starbucks apron (did not get a photo of that one) and when he left the kitchen I said to Brian, "Wait, now he will dress her up in a singlet and headgear, you just watch." Sure enough, this is what she came out with next.

Cute picture with the Mommy

Abigail enjoying her birthday party (we had it late due to scheduling conflicts).

Here's Abigail showing off one of her really cute outfits that she got from Uncle Mark and Jan.

Tanner and Abigail enjoying the beautiful fall leaves.

My very handsome, very photogenic son!

Can bad news be Good ~ Part 2

Could you possibly believe there could be a Part Two to this post???

Well, there is. Yesterday we returned home from church to find out that our house was flooded due to a pipe (one connected to our dishwasher) that burst under our kitchen sink.

Now, keep in mind our house is pretty small. Kitchen with dining room, living room, long hallway, 1 bathroom (yes you read that correctly and for 6 people), 3 bedrooms and a single car garage convert into a small laundry room and an additional room that we use as a bedroom for the oldest.

When I say "our house was flooded" what I mean is that our everyday, all the time living space was filled with water. We lost our kitchen, dining room, small pantry off the entryhall, living room, partial hallway, only bathroom, Noah's bedroom, hall closet, and our walk in closet in our bedroom which wall is common with the pantry wall. The damage is so extensive that today I spent the entire day sorting through what things I will need over the next few weeks/months and what I won't mind stored away for that time. My house was filled with workers today packing and moving stuff, assessors looking over the damage, the insurance adjuster, and the several friends I called on for desperate help. We have officially moved out of our house as of 7:30pm tonight and are currently living in the Marriott Residence Inn until Friday. At that time we are hoping to have enough information as to what our temporary living arrangements will be and hopefully for how long - if they can even tell us.

As I am at the hotel and left my camera at home, pictures are coming...
